You should arrive at Johnson & Hayes Physical Therapists expecting a pleasant experience. Our friendly, dedicated and compassionate staff is here for you, and is ready to serve as your advocate. The following are answers to frequently asked questions about what can be expected during your visit.

How long does a typical session last?

Each appointment is tailored to the individual patient, but a typical session lasts one hour.

What do I wear?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows access to the body part that is being worked. Gowns and curtained areas are available if needed.

How often will I have to continue therapy?

The frequency and duration of therapy visits may be requested by the doctor or determined by the therapist at evaluation. This is reassessed as treatment progresses and adjusted accordingly.

Will I be doing heavy exercise?

Exercise intensity will vary depending on patients' needs and capabilities.

How is my treatment program decided?

A patient's first visit will be comprised of an evaluation from a physical therapist. Information will be gathered from the patient and tests and measurements will be performed by the therapist. The problem and its solution will be discussed between the therapist and patient. A typical session can include education, various exercises specific to the condition, hands-on work from the therapists, and modalities to help inflammation and pain.

Will my doctor be informed of what is going on?

Patients will be re-evaluated periodically with progress notes. Progress notes are sent to the referring physician every 30 days, with the patient on each return visit to their doctor, and upon discharge from physical therapy.

Do I have to have a referral?

Not necessarily. Please call our facility to inquire as to whether or not you need a referral. Direct access laws differ between Alabama and Tennessee.

What insurance do you accept?

We take most forms of insurance: Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, HealthSpring, Humana, Medicare, Tricare, VA, and Workers' Compensation.
